City break · two days on foot

Weekend Map

A small route, a few good stops, and room to get lost.

Two days is exactly enough time to fall for a city. This page lays the weekend out like a route: begin at stop one and follow the numbers, or treat the list as a menu and pick your own way through. The map below is drawn in the page itself, so it loads instantly and never goes missing.

Day one — the long loop

  1. Corner Bakery

    8:30 · 20 minutes

Start where the city smells like butter. Order whatever is still warm from the oven and eat it standing up, watching the shutters go up around you.

  2. Sunday Market

    9:15 · 1 hour

Two lanes of stalls under striped awnings: fruit, flowers, and a man who sharpens knives on a wheel. Buy one thing you cannot pronounce.

  3. Riverside Green

    11:00 · 45 minutes

Follow the water east until the traffic thins out. There is a bench near the far bridge that is almost always free.

  4. Old Town Steps

    13:30 · 30 minutes

A steep climb for the best view in the city. Stop halfway for a rest. Nobody up there is counting your steps.

  5. Lantern Alley

    19:00 · open end

Small tables, low light, and a menu in one language only. Point at something, order the house wine, and stay a while.

Day two — the slow half

  1. Canal Boathouse

    9:00 · 1 hour

Rent a boat if the day is kind, or sit on the bank and watch braver people row in slow circles.

  2. Museum of Small Things

    11:30 · 2 hours

Buttons, keys, matchboxes and one perfect toy theatre. Quiet, cool, and the best two hours of the weekend.

  3. Sunset Rooftop

    18:30 · until late

End on a high floor with one last drink while the map below switches its lights on, one window at a time.
