Some people keep a box of photographs. Others keep a timeline — a single red thread with every important date tied to it, in the order they happened.
The Thread
A beginning
Born on a rainy Thursday in a small town that smelled of cut grass and diesel. My grandmother always said I arrived early, and that I have been early ever since.
The first book I loved
A battered paperback of Greek myths, read until the spine gave out. It taught me that a story is a way of carrying a place around with you.
Leaving home
One suitcase, a train ticket, and a city I could not yet read. The first night I slept on a floor and listened to the traffic like weather.
Learning a trade
I took a job repairing things instead of dreaming about them. It turns out that most good work is just listening carefully before you touch anything.
A small house by the sea
We painted every room twice because we could not agree on white. The kitchen was always warm and the windows never quite closed.
Starting this page
A place to keep the dates in order, so the years stop running together. If you are reading this, welcome — you are part of the thread now.
A timeline is not a record of everything that happened. It is a record of what you decided to keep.
How to use this template
This page is only two files: index.html holds the words and style.css holds the colours, spacing and the red line itself. Open them in Notepad and type over anything you like.
- Change a story by editing the text inside any <div class="event-body">.
- Add a new date by copying a whole <div class="event"> block and pasting it below the last one.
- Move a card to the other side of the line by changing class="left" to class="right".
- Recolour the whole page by replacing every #b3261e in style.css with your own colour.
On a narrow phone screen the line slides to the left and the cards stack in a single column, so nothing ever squeezes. Resize this window to watch it happen.
